Finally dead, after 43 years: the Spectrum, the Philadelphia arena which is being demolished starting Tuesday. End of an era. As someone who saw countless events there, from Flyers and Sixers games (including a rookie Michael Jordan, a game where a player ended up playing for both teams -- true! -- and the incomparable Dr. J era) to the Cure, Elvis Costello, and many other concerts, I'm going to miss the place, even though I hadn't been inside the place in about 15 years. So the concourse was narrow, the subterranean bathrooms primitive and cramped, and the third tier above the clouds (but not as high as the upper deck in newer buildings like the one next door). It was still a great place to see a game. (Philadelphia Inquirer)
