If Chocolate Is An Indicator, I'm Doing My Part To Help The Economy
-
Everybody assumes that retail sales in the holiday season are the key sign of a recovery. But there are a lot of other indicators of an economic recovery to watch. Gambling? Down, but tends to be a lagging indicator. Chocolate? Up, which could mean more stress, or just that it's an affordable indulgence. Fashion Accessories? Up, and I don't understand what that's supposed to mean. Movie theater snacks? Up but slowing way down, and, again, who knows what that means? Alcohol? Sunday sales are being made legal in more places, indicating desperation for revenue on the part of state and local regulators. Company holiday parties? Worst in 22 years. Family restaurant outings? Up, and that's good. Bottom line? Nobody knows anything. (ABC News)
