Still alive, at least in the Catskills: Yiddish, the subject of a yearly camp for people to keep the language and culture alive. As people like my mom who spoke Yiddish as their native language die off, the culture has shrunk, too, but some people don't want to let it die. Certainly, it's the most colorful language ever, with words that just sound like what they're describing. You don't need to know the language to figure out what it means to be farblondget or have naches or shpilkes. (New York Times)
