It's A Gateway To Harder Crimes, Like Loitering
-
Los Angeles has the stereotype of being a place where people don't walk and you get arrested for jaywalking. Stereotypes are often reflective of at least a little truth, and so it is with this one, as the L.A.P.D., confronting the Greatest Threat To Society In Our Generation, prepares a crackdown on jaywalking in downtown L.A., featuring higher fines and a zero-tolerance policy. The excuse they give is that jaywalkers are often criminals fleeing the scene of a robbery or other crime, but, come on. And it's not like they've run out of REAL crimes to solve. (KTLA/Los Angeles)
