People Died For Your Right Not To Bother To Study Up On The Facts

This columnist at the Toronto Star, with the federal election coming up, asks a question that gets asked in every democracy or republic at election time: Should everyone vote, even those who have no idea what's going on? We urge everyone to vote, but if someone hasn't bothered to brush up on the candidate's positions, why would we want him or her to vote? Should the vote be reserved for those who care? And if you're unclear on the issues, or don't like any of the candidates, is it your civic duty to vote or is it a greater duty NOT to vote? (Toronto Star)
