A memo from 1944 finally released to the public contains a warning by a doctor to FDR that the president would not survive a fourth term and recommended that he not run. He ran, and, of course, he died on April 12, 1945, months into his fourth term. So he knew that he was not in good shape, and that his VP choice would be critical, and he picked a little-known, seemingly unqualified guy? And that guy turned out to be a popular success?
