Truth Be Told, She Was The Reason I'd Stay Up And Watch It In The First Place
-
Dead: Elisabeth Sladen, British actress, at 63, and that name won't mean anything to you unless you're a member of the cult of "Doctor Who," who know her as "Sarah Jane," the most popular of the Doctor's traveling companions, so popular that, decades after she was on the show, they brought her back, now pushing 60, in a new children's series playing the same character. If you're a certain age and first saw the show in the 1970's, especially on U.S. public TV when they'd run the Tom Baker episodes every weekend, you'd remember her, with a mop of hair and a little bit of an attitude. Nerds and geeks everywhere are in mourning, just days before the start of another season of "Doctor Who." (Nerdist; I also posted some additional interview clips and her last scene on the old "Doctor Who" in 1976 here)
