My Quadruple Bar Mitzvah's Not Too Far Off
-
The self-absorption of young America is breathtaking. How else to explain the mini-trend of people holding "double bar mitzvahs" and "double bat mitzvahs" when they're 26? They eschew the hard part -- the religious part, where you have to read all that Hebrew -- and go right to the reception. And they're throwing the parties for themselves. The interesting part -- and the part that might make a topic -- is that they say they're doing it because when they were 13, they were too socially inept to be cool at the reception, but now, as adults, they can do it right. What else would you like to be able to do over? (Boston Globe)
