The headline on the L.A. Times/USC poll is calculated to make you think that Californians, already plagued by impossibly high taxes, are in favor of tax increases. Then you read more and find that the poll was closer to a push poll, that it asked those "if raising taxes means that teachers won't be fired" questions that skew the results. Even the pollsters are in on the push to raise taxes. And this is after the governor once again rolled over for the prison guards' union and handed them an outrageous (minimum eight weeks vacation a YEAR?!?) deal with big raises. Nobody wants to make cuts where they're really needed. (Los Angeles Times)
