You See One Flower-Covered Float, You've Seen 'Em All
-
Torrance, California is known across the country for... what? See? You don't know much about it -- maybe you remember that it was Dirk Diggler's lower-middle-class home town in "Boogie Nights," or that it was where the mall was in "Jackie Brown," but unless you live near it (which I do), you don't know anything about it. But it's not for the lack of trying, specifically through the annual Rose Parade float. They spend six figures on a float every year, and that's marketing. But times are tough, the budget is tight, and 2012's Torrance float may be the city's last. Is a parade float worth the money? Do you, if you're not in Southern California, even remember which cities and local businesses had floats? (Daily Breeze)
