The Protestors Care, But Are They The Majority?
-
Mayor Bloomberg of New York stepped in it again with a comment about the parents fighting the city's proposal to close 22 poorly-performing schools, saying that some of those parents "never had a formal education, and they don’t understand the value of education." The parents are angry. But is he right? My dad was a school principal in the inner city in the 60's through 90's, and he would talk about a lot of parents who just didn't care about education and how hard the kids had to work to overcome that. Maybe it's harsh, but is it true? (New York Times)
