Fly The Friendly Skies

Suddenly, there's an epidemic of slapping on airplanes? First, a guy was arrested for slapping a flight attendant on a flight to Boston, but after they arrested the guy, the judge dropped the charges, saying that the incident didn't happen in Boston, so there wasn't jurisdiction. Meaning, I guess, that if you slap a flight attendant, either it's a federal case or you can't be prosecuted. But a witness said that the flight attendant gave the passenger a hard time, so... no, violence isn't warranted. But... um... no. In another, more spectacular case, on a flight that just took off from D.C. to Ghana, one passenger reclined his seat, and the person sitting behind him reached up and smacked him in the head. Chaos ensued, and because the plane had a full tank and couldn't immediately land, the plane had to circle for a half hour, during which it managed to pick up two Air Force F-16 fighters as an escort. All over a slap. Yes, it's annoying when someone reclines into your face, but being forced to land with an F-16 escort is more annoying. (Boston Globe; Washington Post)
