The local court ruling in San Diego that said the La Jolla July 4th beach fireworks can't go on without a time-consuming, expensive environmental review has become a national story, and while the local "environmental lawyer" who forced the issue says that it's not a national issue and is just a matter for San Diego, you know this is something that will spread. The argument is that the fireworks release carbon and pollute the water and all that, and all it takes is one judge like this one to endanger a tradition that 99% of Americans hold dear. Do we need to do a detailed environmental review for everything now? (San Diego Union-Tribune)
