They Didn't Even Consider Wearing Top Hats
-
The Army is making a fashion change with its field uniform, dropping the beret after 10 years and replacing it with a cap. The beret will be part of the dress uniform but not in the field, where the cap will be back; soldiers complained that the berets didn't shield them from the sun, didn't have a visor, and didn't absorb sweat well. Plus, a cap is cheaper. Meanwhile, at the Pentagon, camo fatigues are being replaced by the dress uniform, a return from the post-9/11 switch to "war footing" dress, because, as Sgt. Major Raymond Chandler said, "this is the corporate part of the Army." Can they wear combat uniforms on Casual Friday? (Agence France-Presse via Yahoo! News; Thanks to Jim Walsh for the link)
