He Had A Mother. Her Name Was Mother. Hi, Mother!

Dead: Wild Man Fischer, at 66. Who? Well, before there was the late Wesley Willis, there was Larry Fischer, a man with mental problems who became a cult musical sensation, first after being recorded by Frank Zappa, then, after recording a jingle for Rhino Records' retail store (which kinda led to the creation of the label), he recorded albums in the 70's that became Dr. Demento staples. One listen to "My Name Is Larry" and you'll never forget it. Interesting, though: His fans think that when, in his final years, he got back on his meds, he lost his creative edge. They think that for him to be entertaining, he had to be off his meds. That's a shame, to think that someone would have to suffer through schizophrenia to be an "artist." (Los Angeles Times)
