Do They Like Sweet-and-Sour Snails In Heaven?
-
Dead: Alice Playten. You know who she was, even if you can't place the name. You may remember her from "National Lampoon's Lemmings," or from an L.A.-based kids' show of the 70's called "That's Cat," which aired in several markets. You may have seen her on or off Broadway. You'd certainly remember her voice. But for most people, she was best known for an Alka-Seltzer commercial in which she played a newlywed joyfully talking about the dumpling she served her husband and telling him her new recipes for things like marshmallow meatballs while he resorts to Alka-Seltzer. Trivia: Her husband in that commercial was Terry Kiser, Bernie in the "Weekend at Bernie's" movies, and she was in real life married to Joshua White, the creator of that late-60's psychedelia staple the Joshua Light Show.
