One Day's Like An Eternity If You've Already Been Waiting
-
New York has has for many decades a one-day waiting period before you can get married. It dates back to the 1930's and is supposed to give you time to think about your actions (and everyone else to step in if there's an objection). But now that gay marriage is legal, some gay couples want that one-day thing to be waived, because without a waiver, no gay marriages will be allowed on Day One of the new law. And they're tired of waiting. Can't blame them, but if the rules are the same for everyone, that's kinda the deal, and either you change it for everyone or leave it alone. (Personally, I'd lose the waiting period; there's no logical reason to make consenting adults wait) (New York Times)
