If Harvey Catchings' Number Isn't Retired, Nobody's Number Should Be Retired
-
LeBron James is giving up his number 23 and thinks that everyone in the league should, too, with the league retiring the number for all teams to honor Michael Jordan, just like baseball retired 42 for Jackie Robinson. But Robinson was honored for something more than being a great player; he broke the color barrier and arguably changed society. Jordan was a great player, but did he do anything else? And if just being a great player is all you need, why not retire numbers for Dr. J, Magic, Bird, Russell, Wilt, and any other of the guys who have occupied the Best Player slot?
