Sorry, Buddy. Anyone Can Paint a Fish
-
California sells a license plate with a whale tail, and the proceeds go to fund coastal and environmental conservation programs. It's very popular (my wife's car has one). It was painted by that guy Wyland who paints massive murals of ocean life. Wyland decided that his painting was so popular, he deserved a cut of the license plate profits for his own conservation group. And the state told him to take a hike and held a contest for someone else to paint a whale tail. Which is why there's a new whale tail, which looks a lot like the old one. In fact, you wouldn't notice the difference. You seen one whale tail, you seen 'em all. Let that be a lesson to artists who think they're better than everyone else. (Los Angeles Times)
