Can't Take A Hint

This is a great story about pitcher Kei Igawa, who you might remember as the Japanese pitcher signed by the Yankees a few years back to a Dice-K-type contract but who flamed out after a short tenure in the Bronx. Where is he now? Well, that's the story: Having refused trades back to Japan, and having been told by the Yankees that he will never return to the majors with them, he's still living in New York and commuting by town car to pitch in the minors, refusing to give up or return home in humiliating fashion. He's sticking it out, pitching for the Scranton-Wilkes Barre Yankees or the Trenton Thunder, and then taking the two hour ride back to his solitary apartment in Manhattan after every game. He's being paid a lot, and he won't budge. It's either persistence or insanity. (New York Times)
