Next Time, Let The Cat Have Its Snack
-
Woodpeckers, apparently, are a protected species. This was unknown to an 11-year-old girl and her mom when they saved a baby woodpecker from being eaten by the family cat in the girl's father's backyard. They couldn't find the mama bird, so they brought it back to mom's house, stopping at a Lowe's on the way because of the heat. That's when an agent from the Department of Fish and Wildlife materialized and told them they were breaking the law. So they let the bird go free. And the state fined them $535 and threatened mom with a year in jail for transporting a migratory bird. As the cliche says, no good deed goes unpunished. (WUSA-TV/Washington)
