This Toronto judge is one of a growing number of jurists worldwide warning of "mistrial by Google," the problem where, despite warnings, jurors are looking up their cases on the Internet during the trial, thus tainting them. How do you stop that? If you ban people serving on a jury from using the Net, you're eliminating a large portion of the jury pool who needs to use the Net to work and communicate, and you'll drive people away from even wanting to serve. But if they're getting information that's not court-approved, their verdicts may not be legal. (Toronto Star)
