But Where Does Mr. Pibb Stand In All Of This?
-
It's Big Corporate America versus Small Town America in the grand Battle of the Dr. Peppers. Did you know there were two Dr. Peppers? There's the one you find everywhere, owned by the Dr. Pepper Snapple company, and then there's Dublin Dr. Pepper. What's Dublin Dr. Pepper? It's a real-sugar version made by a company in the soda's home town of Dublin, Texas, and it traces its roots to the same Dr. Pepper as the corporate one. And they've been able to make Dublin Dr. Pepper forever under a license and in a friendly relationship with the corporate version. That lasted until the Dublin people started to sell their cane sugar version online and the corporate version tried real (beet) sugar as well and saw good sales from it. Now, the corporate guys have yanked the license and are demanding that the Dublin version change its name. You know what the result of this move by the Dr. Pepper Snapple people really is? People like me who weren't aware that the Dublin version existed now know. And we'll go out of our way to buy and try it. Thanks for the heads-up, Dr. Pepper Snapple. (Los Angeles Times)
