The Government We Deserve
-
How hopeless is California? In an era when businesses are desperately needed to provide jobs, the legislature and Governor remain hell-bent on adding regulation that will drive businesses away. And they're so transparent in serving specific special interests that the only way they hold power is that most of the electorate is either asleep or stupid. Take the bill engineered by unions that will require certain new retailers to have to file extensive and onerous new "impact studies" on how they'll affect other businesses, which, of course, is always conjectural in the first place. The law was tailored to only affect Walmart. It's so brazen that the law exempts (union-friendly) Costco, which would otherwise be among the only other affected retailers. They just don't want a non-union business around, regardless of jobs. And speaking of jobs, when they say they want more, they lie. They'd rather just tax everyone to death. Proof: Amazon called their bluff and offered to open several new distribution centers here, and hire 7,000 people, if the state put off taxing Internet purchases for a few years. Jobs or tax revenue they can spend on themselves through patronage and union giveaways? They're picking taxes. And people will re-elect these hacks, and they deserve what they get.
