You can see the bias in this article about how, in one estimation, tax breaks for U.S. families are greater than tax breaks for special interests, when the reporter characterizes the tax breaks, like the mortgage deduction or making health premiums non-taxable, as "tax expenditures," based on the idea that a tax break is "spending." That assumes that the money was the government's to begin with. That's the fundamental difference between fiscal conservatism and liberalism: The latter thinks your money is the government's money, the former thinks it's yours. (Washington Post)
