The other side of the removal of parking meters and the introduction of those multi-spot "pay stations" is the demise of the meter feeder. In New York, it was common for some businesses like restaurants to send someone out to feed your meter if you were going to be there for a while, but the new system requires you to pay at the station and get a receipt, which you then put on your dashboard, and people don't want to hand their keys over to the restaurant for that. Another little convenience gone. Sigh. (New York Times)
