Why You Want To Stay Close To A Good Hospital At All Times
-
The place not to get sick is the South Pole. We've heard of a researcher who had to treat herself for breast cancer for months down there, and now another researcher is stuck there without treatment for a stroke because Raytheon, which manages the station there, won't send a rescue plane, saying it's too dangerous right now and her condition's not life-threatening. She's on oxygen and has lost some vision in both eyes, she had the stroke in August, and she has to wait for a cargo flight on Ocober 17th -- weather permitting -- to get flown out. So, no, that's not ideal. She wants out now, not on the 17th. Can't blame her, but it's also a risk you take by going down there. (New York Times)
