That's The 'Having A Life Outside Work' Penalty
-
This career advice column points out something that may be unfair, but it's the way things are: Taking time off for maternity leave hurts your career. And that goes for taking time for anything, whether it's maternity leave or illness. On one level, it's unfair, but on another level, if you have a business, and somebody takes several months off from their jobs, are you supposed to just shut down or try to continue? And at what point does continuing with somebody else in the position make more sense than waiting for somebody to come back from leave? (The Globe and Mail)
