Prison inmates know that they are not supposed to be in possession of, or using, cell phones. That's the rule, everybody knows it, and though some people violate that rule, everybody knows about it. So, do we feel sorry for this guy, who, about to be paroled, was caught using a borrowed cell phone to call his family and tell them he was coming home, and, as punishment, will be spending another 5 years in prison? The article is very sympathetic toward his cause, and, well, when you're that close to freedom, this gotta hurt. But he's no angel -- he threw a guy from a moving car and stabbed a fellow inmate, too. So, is this fair or not? Does the expense of keeping him in jail matter as well? (Los Angeles Times)
