Better Off Orphaned

How carefully are potential adoptive parents checked out by the state? That question comes to mind when you find out about this couple, who are being accused of locking their adopted twins in the bedroom, feeding them just once a day, and beating them for trying to steal food. The parents locked food away so the kids couldn't get at it. Worse, this has been going on for a while, if the allegations are true: the mother adopted the kids when they were 2 years old and they're now 16.It gets worse, because the bedroom in which the kids were locked had no electricity or clock, the twins were homeschooled so they never left, and they were not allowed to touch other family members, sit with them, or use the same utensils that everybody else used. It's tough enough to be adopted, but it's terrible when the luck of the draw gives you parents who do this.
