You'll Just Have To Suffer A Little While Longer
-
This group wants to change divorce laws to make it harder to get divorced in a quick manner. Among their proposals is to require extensive counseling before granting a divorce, and, most controversially, requiring a one-year waiting period before granting any divorces. There would be a waiver possibility in cases of demonstrable domestic violence, but otherwise, unless you can prove abuse, you'd have to wait. And I don't understand why the government should be involved in what 2 people in what is, essentially, a contractual relationship with extra added emotion decide regarding the future of that relationship. If they agree that they want to divorce, that's their decision. If they want to undo it, the solution is as simple as going down to the clerk's office, getting a license, and getting married again. You are allowed do overs. So, why make people wait? (WXYZ–TV/Detroit)
