They'll Just Find Another City Agency And Stick Them On The Payroll There

Do you need an example of why public education is in the mess it's in? Take a look at Atlanta, which is already been through a test cheating scandal. Now, the superintendent is ordering the firing of about seventy people who had retired, then were rehired for office jobs that apparently were not only unnecessary but were at a pay rate significantly higher than that for people who actually had jobs that mean something. And many of them worked for the former deputy superintendent of instruction who had been a key figure in the scandal. These people were making a very good living off taxpayer money. And if you think this isolated to Atlanta, you're not paying attention. One of the greatest scams in America is how school systems beg and plead poverty in order to get more tax money from well-meaning citizens, and then spend it on central office patronage jobs. It happens everywhere. (Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
