Need? No. Want? Yeah

A lot is being made of Verizon and AT&T's LTE speeds, and home broadband is promoted as having faster speeds than the competition. The question is, do you really need the faster speed? Most people don't. It's become an issue with the new iPhone, which is only 3G. Some people won't buy it because it doesn't have LTE. But I've tested out phones with LTE and WiMax, and I found that while they are, indeed, faster, and it's very noticeable if you're downloading things, you really don't need that for the things most people do with their phones, like getting e-mail or even streaming audio. The extra speed is nice, but it's not a necessity. And it's definitely not a necessity if you have to pay more for it. (New York Times)
