The Tough Ones Are Always The Ones You Remember Most
-
Utah Valley University hired a business scholar away from the University of Houston, but they fired him after one year. And the reason, his lawyers say, was because they decided, based on student reviews, that ohe was too tough a professor. Seriously? If being tough and running your class by the Socratic method is grounds for dismissal, a lot of my college and law school professors would be unemployed. In fact, practically all of my law school professors taught that way, and several of my college investors did, too. It's common. And some would say that it's the best way for classes to learn. Besides, since when do student reviews count? If that's how they're going to review professors, only the easiest professors have a chance at tenure. (Salt Lake Tribune)
