Might Have Been Better Off In The 'Put A Band-Aid On It And Get Back Out There' Days

If you know anything about sports medicine, you know the name Dr. James Andrews. And you know that he knows what he's talking about. So when he says that teams are relying way too much on MRIs, and that the scans show things as problems that really aren't, you have to listen to him. He's taking a stand against the overuse of MRIs in sports, and says that they can lead to unnecessary surgery. The scans are good to find things like tumors, but when they show ligament problems or muscle tears, they often are showing things that aren't really a problem. He proved it by doing scans on healthy pitchers and finding "problems" that didn't exist. On the other hand, doctors make a lot of money doing MRIs. (New York Times)
