They Can't Brown-Bag It?

Now, the report were getting is that the earlier stories of the Justice Department spending $16 per muffin for a meeting were exaggerated, and that what really happened was that they've ordered a much larger breakfast, and the $16 included more food and coffee. so, okay, they didn't spend $16 for a muffin. But they spent $16 for breakfast, and that's an expensive breakfast. When you're buying as many breakfasts as they were, you can do it for less than $16 ahead. As a matter of fact, you could send somebody out for Starbucks and still spend a lot less than that. But when the people making the decisions aren't the ones pulling out their own personal credit cards, that's when a $16 breakfast for meeting seems reasonable. And the media, which was breathless in reporting about the $16 muffin, is equally as compliance in reporting that the $16 is now suddenly reasonable. It isn't. (New York Times)
