Beep Beep Beep Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee CODE BLUE! CLEAR! Beep Beep Beep

This article is about a problem that's bothered me for years: when you're in the hospital recovering from an illness or surgery, you're supposed to be able to sleep and relax. But unless you're on powerful drugs to help you do that, it's damn near impossible to sleep well, considering all the noise. Think about it: there are monitors going off all around you, a nurse is in every few minutes to poke and prod you and rearrange things, the lights are shining in from the hall, and there's likely somebody in the next bed making noises that will keep you up both from the volume and from the horrific nature of the sound. It's supposed to be the most restful place you can find, but it turns out to be the exact opposite. (Boston Globe)
