They take soccer seriously in England, and they don't like anything that hints of American-style operation. But it was only a matter of time before one of the old, venerated stadiums sold naming rights, and so it is with St. James Park in Newcastle, home of Newcastle United. The stadium itself has been rebuilt over the years, but the site and name have stayed the same forever. That's about to change, and it's controversial. New stadiums in England have sold their names, but the old ones are supposed to stay the same. And, of course, the fans don't have to call the place by its official name. (Daily Telegraph)
