At Least They Could Have Given Them Free Peanuts Before Dropping The Ax

When Southwest Airlines bought AirTran, people seemed to be happy about it, figuring that it meant Southwest would be expanding into more markets. And now comes the dropping of the other shoe: Southwest is discontinuing service to some markets served by AirTran and not by Southwest. Miami, Knoxville, Charleston, West Virginia, and Bloomington–Normal, Illinois are getting cut. Previously, Atlantic City, Dallas, Quad Cities, Newport News, and Asheville, North Carolina were announced as AirTran airports that won't get Southwest service. No matter what they tell you, mergers are usually not a good thing for consumers. (USA Today)
