Stand, Mumble, Sit Down

Oh, not again: another controversy over the Pledge of Allegiance. One school district's policy is to do the pledge and allow kids to opt out, but someone's complaining that the kids who opt out can be subject to bullying because of it. really, is this a problem? Are kids actually being bullied? And what's the point of opting out in the 1st place? Is it so hard to just stand up and go through the motions, not even actually saying the words, and moving on with your day? It's not a matter of believing in the pledge, it's a matter of courtesy. It's like when you go to a religious service for a religion of which you're not a member. If people stand, you said. If they set, use it. And if they pray, you quietly bow your head and wait for it to be over. You don't proclaim that it's not your religion. (NECN; Thanks to Jeff Katz at WXKS (Talk 1200)/Boston for the link)
