That Ought To Do Wonders For Our Economy, Too

A guy is trying to get a measure on California's ballot that would force nuclear plant operators to shut down until the federal government apprives a permanent disposal site for nuclear waste. The result, a study says, would be that California's two nuke plants would have to shut down, possibly for decades. And that would eliminate the state's most reliable sources of cheap, efficient power (they produce 16% of the state's power), resulting in rolling blackouts and skyrocketing costs for energy. The scary thing is that, based on the demographics of the state and the knee-jerk environmentalism of the voters in the most populous counties, this could happen. Remember, they voted to fund the bullet train to nowhere that's presently draining billions from the tax rolls. (Los Angeles Times)
