When you go to the dentist, there are always cavities and you always end up getting drilled and filled. That's why you don't go as often as you should. But it turns out, according to this article, that many if not most of those fillings are unnecessary. Some of what gets treated as cavities are really just minor things that don't need to be drilled and filled at all. But nobody makes much money when they don't do the excavation, so most dentists will do the work. I'm sure the dentists' lobby will have a different view of this. But it's not THEIR teeth being drilled. (New York Times)
