Down And Out In the Hot Zips

I used to live and go to school in the Main Line suburbs of Philadelphia, an area of generally great wealth and prosperity. But now there's a lot of unemployment, like everywhere else, and that can be worse in an area unaccustomed to that than in other areas. You're surrounded by the trappings of success and can't afford anything. There's no state agency office to help you nearby, and you start to look for jobs in the same places you used to spend your money... and there ARE no jobs. And your mortgage isn't getting smaller. I know, it's not worse than being unemployed in a poor neighborhood, but a lot of people are being plunged into this without any experience or support system, and when you're surrounded by wealth, it's painful when you can't afford anything. Thanks to Jeff Katz at WFTL/Ft. Lauderdale-West Palm Beach for the link.
