Maybe it's not the same for subequent events, since there's film or video available, but for a lot of early 20th-Century events, the memories are dying. World War I, the Great Quake, even just remembering the way things looked and sounded and smelled and felt in those years are being lost as the last of the people who still can recall any of it die off.
