Will Kick For Cash

It's hard to imagine how a major sports franchise can get in such bad financial shape that it could fold during a season. Even the Dodgers are still operating despite the epic divorce-driven disaster that has the team facing a sale. But British soccer's Portsmouth (aka "Pompey"), which is insolvent and sank in the standings from the Premier League down to the bottom of the second tier Championship league two years ago and facing relegation again to League One, may fold before the season’s end. It doesn't have enough money to make payroll for the rest of the season. It's like the days of the ABA and teams going under in mid-season (one, the mythic Baltimore Hustlers/Claws, went under in PRE-SEASON). Pro sports leagues aren't supposed to have that happen.
