Because that's a massive change from the last century, in which cars were iconic to teens. I can't even imagine being a teen and not lusting after a '60s-vintage Mustang GT convertible. But today's teens and young adults don't care about cars. Why? With the Net and texting, they don't need wheels to communicate, plus there's the expense and the environmental stuff.
