This article wonders whether it's true that airlines hold back seats so they can charge more for them later. Here's how it works: You go online to buy a ticket, say, a month in advance, and you see that there are only a few seats left and none together. So you book and reserve your seat. Or you try to book a flight with frequent flyer miles and none are available. Then you take the flight and see plenty of open seats. What happened? There's evidence that some -- not all -- airlines simply block off seats with the hope that they can jack up the price for last-minute buyers. The deck is stacked against you. (USA Today)
