Some People Can't Handle Success
-
Zooey Deschanel's "New Girl" started out a hit. Now, its ratings are sagging. But the show hasn't changed, and critics still like it. Why the ratings problem? Simple: After the hot start, Fox pulled it off the air. Why? To clear room for "The X Factor," which wasn't the smash they expected. And people just forgot about "New Girl." When it came back, "Glee," its lead-in, had lost a lot of viewers, so IT got rested and Fox led into "New Girl" with "I Hate My Teenage Daughter," which REALLY bombed, providing horrible numbers. And that got replaced with low-rated "Raising Hope" reruns. So that's a look at how a network can kill a promising new show. (New York Times)
