No Place Like Home. No, Really, He Has No Place Like Home
-
You make the call: An 18-year-old autistic and developmentally disabled boy is in the hospital. Officials say he's ready to return home. But his parents and brother don't want him to come home. Why? Because he's prone to very violent outbursts. He's thrown the dog, he's slammed his stepfather's arm in the dishwasher, he sometimes needs to be restrained until he calms down, but he's especially violent towards his 7-year-old brother. Mom says it's not safe for the older son to come home. Yet he can't stay in the (taxpayer-funded) hospital bed forever. So... where should he go? (Toronto Star)
