Hey, Kids, Let's Put On A Literary Disaster
-
Dead: Mike McGrady, former Newsday editor. Why is this notable? It's for something else he did: He created, using chapters written (deliberately badly) by reporters and editors at the paper, the legendary fake bad porn novel "Naked Came the Stranger." He decided that anyone could write a Jacqueline Susann novel, and, well, yeah -- it was a bestseller before AND after the hoax was admitted. And "50 Shades of Grey" proves that there'll always be an audience for badly-written porn novels, the worse the better. (New York Times)
